Bill Rice from Utah Property Solutions, part of the field team, shares tips on troubleshooting common garbage disposal issues. If your disposal isn’t working at all and makes no noise, it’s likely a power issue. If it’s making a strained, moaning sound, something is probably jammed between the blades and the side. Before troubleshooting, always disconnect the power for safety. To unclog a disposal, you can use one of two tools: a hex key that fits into the center of the unit underneath, allowing you to manually twist and dislodge the obstruction, or a tool inserted from the top that wedges inside and provides leverage to free the jam. After clearing the blockage, reconnect the power and test the disposal. If it still doesn’t work, press the reset button, then plug it back in and try again. These simple steps can help resolve most garbage disposal issues quickly and safely.
